The Off Season

Self-portrait series

The Off Season
began as a personal challenge to get back on the court after a long hiatus, but it became more than that, a reflection of a season in my life where I felt still, yet restless. Around that time, I was feeling stuck creatively, so I decided to turn the lens on myself and make something about something I genuinely love.

Self-portraiture has always been a medium I return to when I need clarity. Working with my friend Sogie, I built the concept during the NBA off-season, inspired by J. Cole’s The Off-Season album and the mindset athletes talk about, particularly Damian Lillard’s idea of putting in work even when no one’s watching.

The shoot was quick,  just an hour before sunset but it captured that feeling of preparation and quiet discipline. While editing, I saw ways I could push it further, and I’ve kept that thought close: there’s always another version, another shot, another chance to refine.
